The Western Australian division of the Australian Street Machine Federation (ASMF) was formed to provide a representative body to engage with the governing of safe modifications to enthusiast vehicles;
particularly those originally manufactured between 1949 and 1986.

The National Code of Practice for Light Vehicle Construction and Modification (VSB 14) provides the technical requirements that need to be met when constructing or modifying a vehicle.

The Australian Design Rules (ADRs) are national standards for vehicle safety, anti-theft and emissions. The ADRs are generally performance based and cover issues such as occupant protection, structures, lighting, noise, engine exhaust emissions, braking and a range of miscellaneous items.
